About Rachel Hachero

An active participant in many aspects of her high school experience, Rachel Hachero has engaged in various activities during her four years at Canterbury School in Fort Myers, Florida. Joining the private school’s Model United Nations (MUN) team, Rachel Hachero traveled to Turkey during her sophomore year to compete in a conference in Istanbul. Rachel Hachero has also attended the KnightMUN conference at the University of Central Florida, gatherings at Florida Gulf Coast University and Harvard University. Furthermore, Hachero participated in MUN events in St. Augustine and Cape Coral. At the Harvard National MUN, Rachel Hachero earned an honorable mention in her committee.

Involved in school athletics as well, Rachel Hachero ran track for three years and cross country for one at Canterbury. Hachero participates often in five-kilometer races held in Fort Myers, occasionally placing in her age group. Working her way up to half marathons as well, thus far she has completed the Disney’s Princess race, the ING Miami competition, the Hooters to Hooters event, and the Naples Daily News contest.

In addition to running, Rachel Hachero particularly enjoys hiking. In her childhood, she and her mother hiked in the Appalachian Mountains near Virginia and Maryland, and in more recent years she trekked New Mexico trails. In the past two years, Hachero has made two backpacking trips to Costa Rica, where she and her classmates also surfed, cooked local foods, and absorbed regional culture by spending nights in homestays.

A vegetarian and animal lover, Rachel Hachero belongs to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, with her membership dues contributing toward animal rights advocacy. Additionally, she joined the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and volunteers with the Gulf Coast Humane Society. For the latter organization, she walks and socializes dogs in need of extra attention.

Additional volunteer positions Rachel Hachero dedicated her time to during her high school years include office work for Habitat for Humanity International and community service for The Shelter for Abused Women & Children (also known as the Naples Shelter).
